orange and pink in Rishikesh Photo

Photographer’s Note

I have never seen so much of pink and orange as in Rishikesh, at the footsteps of Himalaya and on the river Ganga, the Hinduism' holiest river. Grey stones of the river bank provide an ideal setting for these colours.

This group of ladies, who were probably staying at one of the ashrams similar to that in the background, are on their way to the evening bathing (puja) in Ganga. It is just before the sunset.

I hate to critique based on something you may have little control over, but the jpeg artifacting in this photo makes it very difficult to appreciate properly - it strains my eyes. If your program or camera has option to save with better jpeg quality, it should be used. And the camera tilt to the left should be fixable.

On the other hand, the subject is good, and I like the incongrous purse. Cropping the picture to the lower right, to the left of the first woman and just above the ashram, might help since the ladies are the most interesting bit of the picture - though that could be counterproductive if your original file is low quality jpeg.

I liked the colors against nearly grey background. It reminded me of the Hymalayan miniatures. Pity, it wasn't sharp enough. I tried a little workshop, hope, you don't mind.

I love the way the colour of the womens clothing mirrors the colours of the building.
It would be better if you cropped some off L side and top, to make the women more central, and to lose the electric cables.
slight rotation as well. jpeg quality? what to do..

I've just been to Rishikesh, & your image successfuly recreates the environ of the place. I think the low light condition has also played its role a bit along with the reasons mentioned by ruffin & galidana. The subject seems to be remained underexposed due to evening light limiting the scope for effective cropping.
Neverthless, a peace inspiring shot of a peaceful place.
