Photographer’s Note
Cerro Chaltén or how it is more commenly called Cerro Fitz Roy is one of the most photographed mountains in the world that attracts thausands of visitors and a few hard core climbs every year. But it is also one of those mountains that makes life for tourist and climbers frustrating as often the mountain is partly or totally covered in clouds. That's also what gave the little village El Chalten its name - it means "the smoking mountain".
So one consider himself lucky if one encounters it only partly clouded and I guess I can consider myself very very lucky when I climbed up that morning to the "lago de los tres" at 6am only to find the mountain entirely free of clouds and illuminated liked a big golden temple.
It was an almost religous experience when slowly the sun came in and warmed up not just the mountain but also our freezing limbs.
To climb Cerro Fitz Roy is actually considered harder than climbing Everest as it is much more technical and the weather situation adds quite some extra degrees. Climbers often wait for weeks and months in the base camp until they get a stable window for an attempt.
The alternate name Fitz Roy stems from Robert FitzRoy who explored some of the area in 1834.
Enjoy it.

You're a lucky man to have seen this without clouds. The golden sun on the peaks gives the whole mountain a nice warm colour and makes this a spectacular scene. Well done!

Hi, Christian. A gorgeous spectacle. The light on the rock towers is fantastic and well enhanced by the darker peaks in the foreground which don't get the sunlight yet. The panoramic view is very sharp and shows a lot of details. A very good shot.

Thank you, Christian for showing us this early morning panorama of Fitz Roy with those warm colours (and probably some cold temperatures, while waiting for the sunrise...) A very interesting note also.
