Photographer’s Note
Vishnu rests in a pool of water, sleeping till the monsoon's end. A huge festival is held when he awakens in Sept. Today the devotees have come to garland him with marigolds, throw flowers, burn incense, touch him. Some put their face into a puddle of water on his feet, all put ochre on their foreheads. The food and flowers they offer become holy, prasad. They take the remainder home to bless their family and freinds. Vishnu is floating on a bed of cobra heads. Nepali Kings were thought to be a reincarnation of Vishnu, and thus living Gods.

Dear Gloria,
Even the faces within the the shade are well focused and sharp. Apt exposure control.
A complete story within the frame. Well captured.
Best wishes
Dr. J. Bhunia

A nice document, Gloria and with your usual naritive style that I enjoy so much. I will becoming to Napal in March. I wonder if you will still be there. I guess we wont see any more of your Maoist pictures. This one reflects quieter times, but how many still regard the king as the reincarnation of a god?
