Photographer's Note
Great Man Made River Project
Muammer Gaddafi was certainly a visionary who took on a variety of projects in his career. One of the more contentious has been the Great Man Made River that has piped water over thousands of miles from great underground deposits in the southern deserts to the various towns of Libya and in particular along the coastal belt where 90% of the population resides. Rapid development of coastal areas and increased population have placed a severe strain on the coastal water supply. On completion of the project fresh water will be readily avaliable in most Libyan towns with plenty more available for irrigation.
The project had been put forward much earlier than the Gaddafi period but had been rejected as it might affect the watertable. Some now attribute the drying up of the Ubari Lakes and various waterholes to the side effects of the project.
Started in 1980 the Great Man-Made River project is the largest engineering scheme currently being carried out in the world. The 4-meter diameter pipe is about 1600 km long transfers about 6.5 million cubic meters of per day. Since 1990, UNESCO has been contributing to the training of engineers and technicians and the setting up of a training center.
2007 Now they have water in sahara desert and they have farms there , whic is working with this kind of electric motor and turn around the circle of farm

Hello Cuneyt
Nice shot of this sprinkler! i have seen aerial shots of these from other parts of the dessert, and it looks quite interesting with the round fields they create.
I like the mist in the air, and the sharpness is very good, we can even make out the tiny droplets coming from the end of the sprinkler.
Nice one

Hi Cüneyt,
very good combined capture and note. I like the POV close to the ground together with the depth. And I hope those efforts are successful for a long time as farms are needed there. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi cuneyt
I like the graphism of the triangular 'A' shape. Good sharpness, colour, contrast, & lighting. The color contrast of the sunset orange against the blue sky, is the icing on the cake. Tfs!

Hi Cuneyt, Excellent depth in this shot & I love the mist from the water as in sprays the ground, the light & colours are very good indeed, superbly sharp & I echo the comment of Harry, it's that good you can see the droplets of water coming from the end of the sprinkler, kind regards Wilson. PS a superb note.

Merhaba Cuneyt,
Very effective pov, splendid light and colours. Very nice and well captured, much punchy graphically with that huge triangle wisely positioned.
Very interesting note.
The WS's are also nice, specially the "closerr" one, but not as much as this one.
Regards, José.

Selamlar Ağam,
Demek çölde otu böyle çıkardınız, kumda hayatı böyle var ettiniz. Ellerinize sağlık.
Asrın projesinden geriye de anılar kalacak böyle. Ne günlerdi diyeceksiniz belki de. Hafızamız böyle haindir, oyunlar oynar işte. Ne hikmetse kötü şeyler gider, iyileri kalır hep geriye.
İyi ki çöldeydiniz, sizi iyi ki tanıdık.
Sahra mutlu biz mutlu, darısı kalanların başına...
Sevgiler,

Hello Cuneyt
Good shot of this aggregate, but to my mind it's a bit oversharpened.
Thanks for the informative note!

It is interesting to see pictures of Libya and I have enjoyed the rich colours and quality of your pictures. This irrigation machine makes a strong and dramatic silhouette against the sky.I like the soft misty colour too. Your note is very informative and relevant. It might well affect the water table and have consequences for the future. Regards Kevin

Fotoğrafın belgesel niteliğe sahip yazdığun not çok açıklayıcı. Eline sağlık.

Merhaba Cuneyt,
Il est toujours agréable de faire pousser de l'herbe la ou se trouvait le désert, ta photo représente ce que l'homme peut réaliser lorsque au lieu de faire la guerre il s'intéresse a des projets qui sont bénéfique a lui même.

Merhaba Cuneyt bey,
It is great to see this information! It reminds me of my days in Saudi Arabaio, where the King was also interest ed in making the desert GREEN... We see the unusual - for a desert - colour in your shot, which has an unsual PoV! Well done, Tfs, Jay
