Wimbledon Common on a winter’s day. This is an open woodland park in south west London. Somewhere in it a small pond exist as a birds’ paradise.
The photo was taken while I was walking with Joy on a late winter afternoon. Luckily the sun was still casting light onto the forest to create golden yellow reflections everywhere.
For Wimbledon Common, historical records dates back to the Palaeolithic age. "Common land" was never public property but was normally owned by the Lord of the Manor. The only members of the public entitled to use the land were certain tenants, known as "commoners", who were granted "common rights" which included a certain amount of grazing and the collection of firewood.
In 1864, Earl Spencer, Lord of the Manor of Wimbledon, called a meeting of local residents in the Village Hall at which he outlined a Bill which he intended to present to Parliament for the enclosure of 700 acres of the common as a park, a further two acres as a garden to a new manor house which he intended to build near the site of the windmill, and the sale of the remaining 300 or so acres as building land. This did not materialise.
In 1866 after four years of litigation Earl Spencer came to terms with the residents and a new Bill was drawn up. This became the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Act, which received the Royal Assent in August 1871. Under the Act, Earl Spencer conveyed his interest in the Commons to a body of Conservators (five elected and three appointed) who were charged with the duty of keeping the Commons open, unenclosed, inbuilt on and their natural aspect preserved.
Today this famous landmark still exists and people enjoy using it. |

Hello Huseyin,
serence scene by the pond capturing lazy passers by enjoying late afternoon sunshine and walk in the park.
... somehow I think you've got the map input wrong as it shows the park being located in waters east of Spain?
;-D
Best regards,
Robi
Merhaba Huseyin Bey,
This is a wonderful shot, drawing one's eyes to it immediately. The composition is excellent, as is the exposure. Moreover, as the great German physicist Werner Heisenberg once remarked, never underestimate how much pleasure it give one to hear/see what he already knows. So it is for me in this image. It gives me a great deal of pleasure.
Saygi ve selamlar,
Bülent (Regards from Washington, DE).
Kompozisyon, renkler, kuşların mavi rengi ile arka fonun kontrastı harika, ellerinize sağlık,
Selamlar,
Ertun
