Friday October 13 2006 is a day I will remember for some time! Around 10 PM I noticed some strange lights outside, and checking more closely I found the neighbouring old school building was on full fire!

The image shows the view from my kitchen window at 00:05 AM October 14.

The fire site is really close to my house and I easily admit the scenery was a bit scary! If the wind increased and in the wrong direction my place would be in real danger!

Two fire trucks lined up with the only duties to guard my neighbour’s and my house. The image shows one of them, positioned in the garden of my neighbour!

That night I took nearly 200 images of the fire, as there was no question of going to bed anyway until the situation was settled. The fire lasted between 3 and 4 hours, and all of the old school with 4 buildings were totally burned down…

I was a bit hesitant to post these images, maybe not quite in the line of TrekEarth?

------

Workshop shows the main building in the old school, which was a large wooden structure the firemen didn’t even try to save!

Hello Pablo
Ok for posting theese kind of picture as a photograph reporter.
I have done one from my window in a fire on the railway station two years ago.
Glad to hear that you had no problems with this incident.
Cheers.

Hi Pablo,

A good capture of the flames of the fire lighting up the sky has a good composition , DOF and nice colors. Also good to know you did not suffer any damages. Thanks for sharing

Pierre

Hi Pablo,
This is a stunning and dangerous moment. Impressive report for this event. Effective and sad theme. Thank you, nice days
George

Bonjour Pablo,
Je pense que c'est une photo intéressante,désolé pour l'école du quartier, on voit très bien l'énormité du feu qui a du être une tragédie dans votre quartier...Bien vue ,,
Michel

Hi, Pablo. There are good contrasts in your picture and we can see the fire raging. It's really impressive. Maybe you couild have shot a little more to the left to get rid of the window jamb on the right. It must be very scary to experience that kind of event from so close...

Hi Pablo,
This is quite a change for you, from the usually pretty landscape images to a photo of journalistic quality. Well managed exposure for this night shot.

Hi Pablo, Thank goodness, you were safe. You have managed to depict the scary scene rather quite well especially the flames. Keep warm and tfs. Danilo

Hello Pablo,
Quite a scary moment with such a huge fire on your next door neighbour and so close to your house!
It's good to know that nothing came to you side!
thanks for sharing
cheers

Hi Pablo,
It seems a pity to me that the nice traditional school building is lost. I think your 200 picture are not worth the lost this building, but as the firemen could save it is good you took the pictures and show us one of them.

Hi PAblo,
What a stark contrast from those winter scenes and to have it happening so close to you must be quite an experience. A nice shot to capture the moment with the emphasis on the intensity of the fire. I like the light below the trees that allowed me to see the people and the house, thus completing the story. Well done!! Glad all is well.

Hi Pablo,

Indeed when we see the photograph of the school in WS we understand better why it burned so well. Photo/documentary which, I believe, has also his place on TE. Moreover quality of the image is present. To read the comment the night has being intense and tiring. But fortunately not too much damage.

With all my friendships and good Sunday,

Hi Pablo,

Your question, can this on TE, I think yes, it's a daily life picture.
I see your WS, the construction of the school is completely in wood, very dangerous for fire.
This is no pleasant image, through the dramatic behind this image, but the colours and composition are very well. Thanks for sharing.

Have a nice day,

Hi Pablo

Hei Pablo,

Sorry to hear about the school, I think that you documented the incident very well. You captured great colors and an interesting image. Just not the best scene to wake up to... TFS.

The detail of the trees against the fire is stunning; they emphasize the heat of the fire so much that zI can almost feel it. I remember the terror of fire burning nearby my own home many years ago. Hello Pablo,

Laurent said it best, "Beware Friday the 13th," although it seems the fear of 13 goes back to the Ancient Greeks who used the expression "triskaidekaphobia," for fear of that notorious number, and some will even say, the year that Constantinople/Istanbul fell to the Ottomans, 1453, adds up 13, etc. For me in mathematical physics, numbers are friends, and I have a more democratic lineup of numbers. In any case, I liked your personal note. We all experienced the event, and witnessed it through your eyes, and your camera.

Warm regards,

Bulent

Hope nobody got hurt back then. Good colours, light and quality. Tripod used?

Was the fire set up..or an accident..electrical shortcircuit? Or have you never heard of the origin of the fire?

Greetings.

Quite a display, and certainly frightening. I like the exposure level here, with not much undue glare and fine silhouettes. The tree trunk on the right helps balance the frame, and the view of the building facade really delivers high impact, being so close to the flames. A fine capture, Pablo...later.

Wow Pablo, that's quite close...could you feel the heat through the window. It's sortof a shame about the old school...I have a fondness for old buildings. Did they ever find the cause...some ruthless vandals maybe? The orange glow is very amazing, but I notice the long shadows of the firemen standing in your neighbors yard...very interesting.

Severe car accidents implicating wounded people and fires of properties are always sadly attractive and urge onlookers's cupidity for thrilling sensations........
I must confess this one looks quite spectacular!!!
Au revoir.
