A freak snow storm left a winter's dusting on Sedona's wooing red-rock formations... 45 minutes before sunset.
High ISO; a gausain blur would've been better on the sky.

An impressive landscape... superb clouds hung in the rocks.

Great shot of this impressive rockformation. The clouds between the snow covered top and the red foreground looks great. The soft blue sky fits well with the dark red tones.

beautifull. This is an interesting picture on this climatical event.
I like the contrasts with the red stone.

What a stunning shot !!
The way the clouds are scotching on the mountains are superb !!
TravelerNL (3011) 2007-02-09 15:28
Great landscape with the snow and the low clouds. The red color of the rocks works very well with the green and the white of the clouds in between the rocks. Well captured.
claudio74 (7263) 2007-02-09 15:45
very nice view from this beautifull place.
Clouds and snow give a really impressive atmosphere.
Serendipity (1045) 2007-02-09 16:09
Wow, fantastic landscape ! I like this mist hung on, in the rocky peaks. TFS.

Magnifique payasage que ces montanges avec cette brume qui traine et qui met bien en vleur la couleur de la roche.
Bravo et bonne soirée.

The scenery in this part of the USA is absolutely stunning and you managed to catch the beauty in this picture..

well done Caleb
ces formations météorologiques sont remarquables ;)
qpochet (1412) 2007-02-09 17:28
You managed to capture a very magical moment with that shot! Colours and light are really wonderful and the effect of those clouds amongst the red rocks is just great.
toni_al (15873) 2007-02-09 17:32
Malgré le bruit dans le ciel, le paysage est superbe et la brume ajoute un peu de mystère
rbcy1974 (20758) 2007-02-09 17:57
This prooves that you can capture nature just as well as you do humans
the pinksh tones in this scene are wonderful as is the layer of clouds sititng over the formations
very nice surprise
cdmonson (4436) 2007-02-09 19:23
How very fortunate you were to get this Caleb. It's a wonderful combination--fog, snow, red rock, and fading light. Change any one of those and the picture isn't the same. Beautiful shot all around.
naturelover (306) 2007-02-09 21:49
This is breathtaking! The mist wrapping it self around the red rocks is an beautiful. Nice POV. The colour turned out just great, wonderful detail and composition.
sanalytis (1634) 2007-02-09 21:57
Looks like a dusting of icing sugar;-)
But seriously, I like the image very much. The snow on the red rocks looks unusual but dramatic at the same time. The low cloud formations add a nice touch to the image.

Le ciel est un peu bruité mais les couleurs de ce sublime paysage sont magnifiques et cette petite couche de neige et ces nuages donnent un aspect étrange à cette belle image.
riclopes (35577) 2007-02-10 4:14
Incredible scenery, Caleb. This is already beautiful without the snow and low clouds, but with both, this is gorgeous. Unreal! Thanks for sharing it with us. I really love it!

The heavy mist hanging over those amazing rock formations makes for a dramatic image, and I think maybe going in closer on the rock face and the mist in order to exclude the sky would have made for a stronger shot.
I just find the cyan colour cast in the sky a little off-putting. It's an all too common result of slight over-exposure in blue skies when shooting digitally. You could have set the camera to under-expose in order to record the blue sky correctly, but that would have unacceptably darkened the rock face. Filtration would have been difficult because of the irregular shape of the mountain tops.
I think going in closer and excluding the sky would have been the best choice here.

Very nice shot. The POV is great and the sharpness is perfect. I like very much the colors of this rock in Arizona. The clouds create a very nice atmosphere.

Red stones are mixed with clouds creating a natural spectacle very interesting.
A beautiful composition

HI Caleb, not usually from you images of landascape...
i remember your wonderful portraits...
But this place is incredible and you captured a great moment!!
ChrisJ (94160) 2007-02-11 5:21
I like the stark contrast, between the sharply defined upper third of the image, & the softness of the fog enshrouded middle sector, in this almost surrealistic scene. Good natural repetition of the beehive formations. Tfs!
bostankorkulugu (41834) 2007-02-12 6:14
hi caleb... this is an amazing shot with those cotton clouds and the red cliffs... really like it a lot...
jmcl (14535) 2007-02-13 0:04
for me the slight overexposure in the sky is just overwhelmed by the fog in the red rocks .. just wondrous .. you have composed a magical dream of color and texture ..
AmiBe (6042) 2007-02-13 17:09
you don't have a lot of landscapes in your gallery but when you upload one it's outstanding !
Superb clouds on the mountain, rgs

High ISO noise prevention formula its mine:
Duplicate layer, gausian blur(3-4),layers blending changes (soft, colour, pin, or what are u want),flatten image..
zips (1958) 2007-03-05 6:28
A very interesting ansd well composed shot. It seems that and endless range of different lighting conditions and compositions exist here in this much photographed part of the US.
If you like this type of work, google Lou DeSerio and check out his work from this area.

Hi Caleb, thank you for tis wonderful photo. Very beautiful. Look at this fog rushing down the mountain.
bkester (762) 2007-05-22 4:28
You have some great pictures, but going through your gallery, my eye fell on this one. I just love the cotton-like clouds lying against the mountains, the subtle layer of snow, and the contrast with the reddish colour of the rocks. Amazing!

wow, simple but sincere comment. These scenic type of compositions are really tough to achieve successfully and you've managed it brilliantly. Congratulations
