Photographer’s Note

This sculpture-fountain called La Joute (The Joust) was created by Jean-Paul-Riopelle, a famous canadian painter and sculptor, in 1976, for a site near the Olympic Stadium. Now it's the main attraction of a little square, named after the sculptor and located in the "Quartier international de Montréal".

The ensemble of bronze sculptures contains a central fountain surrounded by a number of freestanding abstract animal figures inside and outside the fountain basin.
In the evening, the fountain operates on a kinetic sequence that takes about 32 minutes to complete (light, myst and fire).
It was too early for the sequence to start When I took this photo, but I could still admire the "kinetic sequence" of my two young cousins playing around the fountain while their mother was trying to take some snapshots.

Wonderful panorama of a beautiful city scene. I can barely remember Montreal but I really hope to visit one day, my mom always tells me about how beautiful it is. And good balance between the glass modern building and the trees and fountain, organic shapes and forms, on the left. Great element of life with the small figures of people scattered about, and nice colors. The black thick frame at the top and bottom really emphasizes the horizontal cropping and length. TFS!
