Photographer’s Note
The Duck Before the Storm.
Lake Dillon - Frisco, Colorado
My brother's law firm was on a retreat (i.e. boondoggle) at the Keystone ski resort. We came up to visit him .. the weather was awful .. I lobbied for a drive around the man made but still beautiful Lake Dillon .. no one else would get out of the car .. but at least they let me go freeze down on the beach for a few minutes .. just me, a duck, and an on and off freezing rain.
Lake Dillon is a man made reservoir .. but still picturesque .. the creation of the lake in 1963 required the moving of the entire town of Dillon and a hydroelectric plant.
The lake sits between the towns of Dillon, Frisco, and Silverthorne .. and is near the Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, & Arapahoe Basin ski resorts.

Excellent photo John. I am impressed with this shot. The lighting is very pleasant here. The mountains with little cloud there helps make the photo more natural. The reflection is nice. The duck in tehre adds more attractiveness. Very sharp too. Effective! Sothy

Hi John: The photo is well composed and the duck is giving you a nice profile and reflection, but you get a big smiley from me because of the excellent title.

Hi John,
Another beautiful landscape with the impressive storm clouds sitting atop the impressive peak and the lovely reflection of the evergreens with the lonely duck. I wonder why the lake is not frozen this time of year?

Hi John,
Lonely duck is ads life to your wonderful landscape view. I like green trees and their beautiful reflection on lake surface. Hazy mountains are also stunning in your photo. Congratulations.

Yes, John, the duck makes the difference in your composotion. Without the lifely fg the picture still would be good but with that little swimming companion it receives depth and interest. Some PP with lightening up the shadows would probably enhance the picture.

Hi John,
I love your title for this picture. Specially, since the duck looks so relaxed :)) But seriously, the composition here is great, and balanced (but you are good at this in all of your pictures). It's yet another great work from you.

Hi John,
Very beautiful and peacefull, very pleasant mood. The compo is excelent, with the zigzag of the lake banks, the aligment of the duck with the rocks that balance all that water and the backdrop of the forest and the misty mountain. Ah, and the reflections.
A really inspired work.
TFS, Regards, José.

Hi John,
Both this image and your next are just great....and the title "Kingdom for..." put a smile on my face though this is in contrast to the emotion displayed. The description of the weather in your note is captured beautifully :
- The low light.
- The cold mirrorlike water.
- The solitude and lonely duck
- The approaching storm.
Well done and have a great weekend.

Hi John,
I'm a duck man too. I also like the curving shoreline and the fog in the mountains. Larry

Hi John. You show the nature of your contry in a fine way. I like the calmness in this one, and the light and contrast is very good given by the cloudy day and rising storm. Composition is good and there is a very nice balance between foreground and background. Good work. Greetings jens :-)
