Photographer’s Note
Snow gums (Eucalyptus pauciflora for those interested) seemingly growing out of granite outcrops near Falls Creek in the high country of NE Victoria. There was a thick mist here, which made for good lighting conditions as well as providing a nice atmosphere. In autumn the snow gum trunks become coloured with reds and greens.
Scanned from a slide. Contrast and saturation adjusted with Photoshop.

Hi Vincent, Nice shot with the organic twists and knarls of the trees contrasted with the hard stone, all enveloped in a misty atmosphere. By coincidence I was up at Falls last weekend for the Audax Apline Classic. I thought this image may benefit from a little more saturation, contrast and sharpness and have done a WS. See what you think (looking at it after posting, I find that I can't see much difference - strange... perhaps I'll try again). Cheers, Steve

Vincent: The tree trunks are gnarled, twisted and amazing. I love the moss on the rocks and the mist hanging in the air. Wouldn't be surprised if Yoda from Star Wars stepped out from behind the rocks. Great photo.

Très joli. Les contrastes au niveau des couleurs, parfois subtils. Les lignes noueuses sur l'eucalyptus. Très bon.

Hi Vincent,
As you no doubt already know, this is a wonderful shot that is full of atmosphere - though I think it could use a little more shadows.
What I wanted to comment on is the intense feeling of vertigo I get while viewing this photo, which is weird because vertigo is usually associated with heights!? I get a very distinct feeling of spinning, like I drank too much and have the bed spins.....really strange eh!?
take care,
steve

Hello Vincent,
This foggy weather gives the photo a kind of sad look. The forms and the various colors of the gums and the rocks in between them make the photo very interestng though.

The Snowy mountians are the one places in this country in which I have not been to. I like the whole greenery ( excluding this year ), mist and interesting landscapes. I drove past there a few years ago but never made it very far.
Scenes like this really seem surreal and like many of our ecosystems unique. The snowy gums seem almost alien like with their form. It wouls be a perfect place for photography. Very nice photo you have I am again inspired to visit this place.
Take care
Andrew

Hi Vincent
I love the high country and it must be at least 20 years since my last visit. The colours and textures of the gum trees and granite are so special. The mist gives it a great atmosphere.

Beautiful, beautiul, beautiful. You have captured the softness of the light at this time of day and this sort of location perfectly. Again, a perfect scan-from-slide. Very nice - TFS.

Yo Vincent,
Wow, what cool trees... so much character and texture. The mist really give it that 'man from snowy river' feel.
Great stuff

Hi Vincent. Marvelous shot. The shapes of the trees and the subtle variations in the colour make this a feast for the eye and and a catalyst for the imagination. The mist adds an aura of mystery. Fine work that has captured the spirit of the bush. Regards. Klaudio.
