Just before the end of the 19th century, the first automobile was brought to Havana from France.

Immediately after that, the landed gentry started to plan the acquisition of those “machines” capable of surpassing the speed of the most "modern" two-wheeled vehicles drawn by lively horses along the few stone-paved streets of the Cuban capital...

I like the contrasting colours of the car and the wall with gate of this state garage (cerrado de abonados estatal) as can be read on the gate.

Hi Rui - the colours are excellent, and the coche is super cute, though I wish the front of the coche was also in the frame.

Hi Rui,

This is one of those images that makes you want to make up a story. I particularly like the details such as the lonely looking, rather battered chair and the peeling wall.

The colours are also make this image very eye-catching, especially with the limited shadows you've achieved by taking the shot with the sun almost directly behind you.

But, for me, the best thing of all is the positioning of the car only partially in the frame. which throws the focus of attention away from the car and back to the chair and the open doorway.

In all, a great image.

Cores fortes numa grande degradação. Dá bem nas vistas. Até a cadeira sem ninguém é um elemento também curioso nesta composição.

Belle image typique de Cuba avec toujours ces splendides anciennes voitures. Quand j’y suis allé en 1989, je n’en ai malheureusement photographié que 2,3… je regrette beaucoup !
