Photographer's Note
We thought we’d gotten an amazing price for a 4WDR pick-up at $300/week; too amazing, it was a 2WDR. The road to the San Pedrito Surf Hotel was just drivable in 2WDR, although there were a few tense moments in the 3 Km section off the main road. DO NOT try to find the place after dark!! Once there, we found a relaxed place featuring a stunning view of the Pacific, excellent beds, and a common area where locals and guests socialize. The pool table is often patronized by local children in the evening. Their best rate of $65/day rate for two includes a kitchen; so bring food since you won’t want to drive that road just to find a place to eat. There are also units with a better view that accomodate more people. The ‘Hotel’ has four units. One was occupied by a retiree from Seattle; the other, by a middle-aged man and his Swedish mother. The two were taking a six-week drive through Baja.
The owners are two brothers from Maui. Internet access is poor. Jeff grumbled that he had been required to sign up for a one-year contract at $1200 and still couldn’t get online. I was able to get on both local networks briefly; but not long enough to do anything.
There was a stunning sunset just after we arrived, the owner plans to use the WS picture for advertising. In the morning, this sight greeted me. Although I try to avoid sunrise & sunset shots whose main virtue is their color, I'm posting this one as primary because the color is untouched. When I'm trying for a foreground with redeeming virtues, I often lighten the photo to show detail as I did at Los Arcos or use fill flash as I did with the saquaro.
In San Jose del Cabo & the Todos Santos area, friendly, well-fed dogs abound. It somehow indicates to me that the economy is doing well when it is possible to feed so many dogs. In a nearby local store, one of the three aisles was almost completely filled with pet items.

Hola Patricia.
Superb sunrise, captured with very good point of view. Excellent colors. The sky looks like it is on fire and the silhouette with the coconut trees give you a nice tropical touch to your photo.
Well done. TFS.

Hi Pat,
An amazing sunrise, seems that the sky is burning.
What alive and strong colors, what beautiful silhouettes of the palms that stand out on this fantastic sky, in flames, and that looks like a painting.
It is a great photo, with a tremendous visual impact and very attractive.
I value very much your effort in writing in Spanish.

Josep

Hi Pat,
Stunning sunrise with electric colors with the palms making the perfect foreground. I love how the colors gradually get more brillant the further down the photo the eye goes.

Pat,
beautiful sunset .. incredible colors .. and well controlled gradients ... those trees in the foreground have great detail .. and plenty of enough to keep my interest on making it "not just another sunset" .. and the sunset is stunning.

Beautiful sunrise PAt and the total blackness of the silhouetted palms is perfect for these stong colours. The Ws is good too and would have made a main post. It sounds like you had quite an adventure.

Hi Pat,
Now I am convinced by this! The sky can't get any better. Combination of orange and red fiery tones with cool purple where the clouds are in shadow is stunning. Those palmtrees work perfectly as silhouettes. And there's even mountains in the distance.

Hi Pat,
This sunset is stunning. The warm red/orange colors are very beautiful, the clouds are gorgeous, and the palm tree silhouettes are TDF (to-die-for). I should remember these settings, f/4.2 & 1/40 seconds, for a similar situation next time. Best regards. Danilo
P.S. I have never been to Baja. Enjoyed reading your Note.

Hi Pat. That's about as good as a sunset can get and I'd say it was worth the tough drive! I love the sharpness in the palm trees the most as it really makes the silhouettes jump out. Beautiful shot Patricia!

Hi Patricia,
It's a terrific way to start the day with all the energy as seen here. The vertical format is just nice as it allows us to look further up the sky to soothe the eyes when met with the greys. I also like the use of silhouette to break the pattern and rhythm slightly. Well done!! Like the sky here, a great day ahead.

Hi Pat,
Yes, they can use both the WS (Altered Image #1) and this primary shot for advertising.
"It somehow indicates to me that the economy is doing well when it is possible to feed so many dogs."
I think the same about Cape Verde, experiencing the difference for several years.

Hi Pat. I think the silhouette style works well with shot, lightening the foreground and losing the colour would be sacrilege. Nice work and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Pat
Amazing saturated colours..just stupendous. I like the way how you framed the shot with so much of the sky. The silhouetted palm trees do look eerie against the sunset colours..breathtaking!
