The isle San Michele of Venice, all one cemetery. It was a favourite place of some famous artists, e.g. poet Ezra Pound, but particularly Russians had chosen it as a place of their ultimate rest: Igor Stravinsky, Serge Diaghilew, and lately the great poet Joseph Brodsky (1996) - all they were in love with Venice. Perhaps because it is the craziest city in the world, according to Brodsky, who wrote in English an outstanding essay about it - Watermark, afterwards translated into Russian by Dashevsky as Embankment of Incurables.

In this city on or in the water the cemetery placed on the isle in the lagoon does not feel as an exclusion of death and deceased. On the contrary, it makes impression of piety, placind those who left this life on an isle with peace and dignity, a sort of monument.
