Today I downloaded Photoshop Elements 5 for a free month trial period. So far I have used a combination of Picasa and Infranview. This photo is the Piacsa/Infranview version. I cropped the original photo and adjusted highlights and shadows manually in Picasa. Adding contrast, resizing and sharpening were done in Infranview.
In the workshop you can see the Photoshop elements version. I cropped the original, did an autocorrection on light/shadow etc. and tried to add a frame which didn't work out the way I wanted. I did a round of sharpening in Infranview though as I couldn't see any effect of sharpening in Photoshop elements. Finaly both photo's were taken through Neat Image.
Maybe not the best photo for experiments but because of all the white walls it is easy to see the differences.
Some more tech info on the originalphoto not shown below:
Metering mode: Matrix
About the photo: It was taken in the area called Darlinton, close to Sydney University. When I walked past I saw this garage gallery where she prepared a photo exhibition.

Hi Harko. I am sure you will find Elements to be the best editor and although I use CS2 I have no doubts that everything I do in that I can also do in Elements 3, 4 and 5. In both of your images the figure shows signs of over-sharpening. A little advice here. Noise reduction should be made before sharpening. Sharpening should in fact be done last of all and always at the output size, i.e. 800 pixels width at 72PPI. Both noise reduction and sharpening should be done with the image at 100% size.

You have lots of nice pictures from you trip ot Autralia. This one sort out of the ordinary. I like the square, inside square ans square you created with the white frame, the natural frame of plants and the window. The white tones and light add a lot to atract the attention and the subject is well placed on the picture. It's amazing the difference in quality between the one you work in Picasa and in PS i hope this is just because you were learning to deal with PS. Otherwise Picasa seems much better... Wha thave you notice on your pictures?
