Photographer’s Note
The Sand Mandala is a wonderful Tibetan Buddhist tradition illustrating the transitory nature of everything material. The Lamas of the monastery work tirelessly for months to create these magnificent pieces of art from colored grains of sand(a mandala itself is a metaphysical or symbolic representation of the cosmos, derived from Hinduism and used as an object for focusing attention during meditation). Then, on a specified day, once it has been viewed and all its functions of ceremony fulfilled, it is systematically destroyed.

Bonjour Richard,
A bientôt

Hi Richard,
Very interesting. It first came to my mind that it's a sort of game, with those objects on top of the base having special meaning. Beautiful.
Beautiful artwork. Idea of disappearing art is also present on festivals where the burn artwork as well as ice sculptures.
