Photographer’s Note

Lake Ruataniwha in the South Island of New Zealand. This is an artifical lake, near Twizel, but a beautiful lake nevertheless. This photo was taken from near the dam wall on a calm morning two days after snow fell on the mountains. Like most glaciallly fed lakes, its colour is usually brilliant blue on sunny days. Early in the morning the sun is not too bright on the snow because it hits it at a low angle, so it is easier to avoid overexposure of the snow.

Scanned from a slide. Polariser used. I used a zoom lens at about 100 mm. I increased the red to make it look more like the original slide, and played with the levels to get the right amount of contrast.

Considering the fact that it is an artificial lake one is stunned even more by the majesty of the landscape.Wonderful shades of blue and beautiful snow covered peaks which double our pleasure through their reflection in the water. Well done. Regards. Klaudio.

An ethereal shot indeed which fills you with plenty of pleasure. Its calm and serene, well lit and the colours are cool pastels. The pov is lovely and so is the use of dof. Overall a nicely seen point of view. Lovely, well crafted composition.

Beautiful landscape with great reflection of the snow covered peaks in the artificial lake. Great luminosity and color contrasts. The P.P works well and the quality image is good.

Very nice capture, Vincent. Perfect exposure and scan, as usual. I think the polarizer was the right choice and the low angle of the sun would have helped.
