I found this woman travelling, risking her life, when we were coming back to city from varsity. As the train was very crowdy, i liked roof of compartment.
I laid down on the roof and two of my friends kept my body steady and i take the shot.
This photo won a gold medal in 67th International Photographic Salon of Japan (Asahi Shimbun) in 2006.

Wow. Impressive shot - doubly so at 1/30, given the motion of the train.
My heart goes out to the woman who has no other means of getting to her destination.

My friend, you have an absolutely singular and interesting shot here. I’m not surprised that you win some award with it, and I’m sure it deserves way more, because it’s simply unique and compelling.
When I read about how you’ve create it, it’s even more stunning.
A never before seen angle and subject. Everything is excellent in this scene, the light, the motion effect, the worrisome expression of the woman, the composition.
Also and foremost, I think that your image is very strong because if you read your photo verticaly, you can feel a metaphoric interpretation of this woman burden, as if she is resisting the pressure of a black heavy mass on her shoulders.
This photo attracted me directly into your gallery and I really enjoy my visit. You’re very talented Wahid!

It is not a comfortable place to travel, such a great shot you captured. The framing is spectacular !!!

An impressive photo with excellent POV where we can see the woman sitting in the back of the wagon at her own risks. Was also quite risky for you, as you described in your note, to take that shot...It goes directly to my theme "more fav.pictures.

That is an excellent title for an excellent picture.
While you are concerned of her and took the picture, I am concerned about you as you too must have been risking your life to take this picture.

I understand why you won the gold medal at Photographic Salon of Japon. A very very good picture you took at the risk of your life. My husband just said me he thinks that he has saw this picture on a newspaper (perhaps : "Le courrier international"). He is not sure about it and he doesn't keep it.

Hey Adnan, I have to say I'm discovering your portfolio right now, which is very interesting and much underrated. I would suggest you participate more into the site's community to get yourself better known, your pics deserve it.
This is really impressive, it takes us right to what is real shortage and hard living. Through the eyes of a westerner, we are almost "accustomed" (what an horrible word)to see images of men sitting on the roof on clinging to the sides of wagons, but the sight of a woman is another step into struggling for life.
As already said, the sense of motion is perfectly captured also very threatening to this fragile woman, holding up her bag. we cannot help but think what would happen if she looses balance... that's perhaps a little bit overexposed to my eyes but in no ways decreases the dramatic intensity of this image.

Oops....So much effort to see this dramatic scene!...
Only in our subcontinent we people doing all sort of risky chores to run their lifes with unbelieveable assertiion to reality!.
Kudos to you to bring this on here...

Wow, that would be scary. The blur of the ground below, and your shot is perfectly framed. It's a shame she can't get inside the cabin.
manojtnair (435) 2007-04-27 4:48
Good composition, the motion is very well captured. i have seen people travelling on roof tops and hanging on stairs at the back of coaches, but never a woman sitting on the coach connectors. congratulations.

terrific POV and great capture!
I'd like to travel in this area and wonder if it's really safe (I mean the hills region).
A smile from Italy

OMG! what can i say but of course this one deserves the gold medal you mentioned in your notes. the speed of the train is clearly seen by the blurr image of the ground, then giving the subject that vivid look.
ps. and then you also risked yourself, i must say!
Aruns (145) 2012-07-23 10:48
