Photographer’s Note
This is the much photographed Brograve windmill in Norfolk.
It's situated near the National Trust managed Horsey windpump which is located right next to a road and easily accessible, and therefore quite busy. This one, however, is in the middle of farmland and about a 90 minute walk there and back from the nearest road! Worth the walk, though.
You might notice a bird on top of the remainder of the sail, it's probably a cormorant, they use it as a look out and to dry their wings in the sun.
The windmill was built in 1771 as a drainage mill. It originally had a boat shaped cap with a petticoat and an 8 bladed fantail with a tailpole. Four patent sails powered the pumping mechanism. 235 years later it stands lop-sided and derelict, and cormorants and photographers are it's regular visitors.
Please give me an honest critique, stating what you like or don't like about the photo.
thanks.
Andy.

Andy, nice composition. Its amazing how difficult it is to decide when the horizon is straight, isnt it? I see you had a choice - include the view of the canal disappearing to the vanishing point on the horizon, or go for the full reflection on the mill in the water. It would be interesting to compare the two aspect ratios.
I have to say that a ND2 or 4 might have been a better choice, the sky looks over attenuated. I notice you use Cokin ND filters. Some complain that these introduce a slight cyan colouration to the picture. Have you noticed that?

Hello Andy,
Nice image :) I really like this composition with the mill on the left and the water flowing from the left foregorund to the right background.
Best regards, Laurent.

Hi Andy,
Very simple and clear composition which recalls more the Netherlands than UK. I think it was a good idea to choose rather low point of view as that enabled the mill to have only the sky as background.

Hello Andy
Very interesting to see this type of windmills in the UK. The image is well taken with nice perspective of river fading into distance and you've also got some nice light on the side of the windmill. Apart from that I'd be interested to see a wider view, so to include more of the reflection. But overall a nice documentary image, tfs.

Hi Andy,
very nice photo. Seen from far away it reminds me a factory chimney, but fortunately
it's a windmill which fits the scenery
a way better :-)I really like the green grass edge cutting the photo in two pieces.
I put your photo in my theme:-) TFS,
Marcin.
