-a short break from my Beijing series-
This is just a little, (daring) experiment I've done yesterday night. Basically panning at slow shutter + rear flash. The 'funny' thing was that all the people who were in the vicinity of the flash stared at me for quite some time! I was spared, only because this place was Times Square (popular shopping center + plaza, tourist destination); which meant loads of other shooters photographing night scenery or portraits with flash.
And here you could see a 'typical' young, Hong Kong couple - fancy (expensive) handbag, dyed hair.etc
Any comments 'd be very welcome!

Beautiful effect and flow here, Cheuk - you are the unequalled "oet of Causeway", man! Lvely, sohisticate, layered shot.

This is great, Cheuk. Your experiment has been most succesful.
I like the coloured lights and dynamic blurred movement.
It would have been even better if only the couple were visible amongst all the lights, but that would have been hard to achieve in such a busy place.

ahhhh, I don't believe it. I've used 2nd synch a lot before and was trying to think how I can use it again. I thought about panning as here. Anyway, nobody will believe me now. The result is superb as only 2nd synch gives. Get as many done before te is swamped with it. Brilliant. Honestly. Brilliant and full of life.
Is your teacher going to ARAF this year ? ;))

A successful experiment with expressions well captured, very nice colors and fine panning effect

Delnaja has some competition! Fantastic blurring effect. Great colors, the sharpness on your models is superb while the blur sets them alone in a chaotic world. Beautiful work Cheuk.

The blur of lights isolates the couple from the crowd. What is amazing to me is that only their faces (& that isolated hand & the denims) are clear & sharp out of the whole picture. Is this the effect of the rear curtain flash?
Wishing you health, love & joy in the coming year,

Excellent Cheuk Hin, excellent... I don't know whether you had previewed the effect if this one but a part of the success of this shot is due to the slightly tilting streaks of lights in the background that in the end, look like a textile patchwork.
You had to be shaking your camera really energically to get that color density, and from the result that was the best choice you could do. Conclusion of your photo : one should not be shy and must often emphasize on the initial idea to get the best result. That's the bonus for you boldness.
Best wishes for 2007.

Hi Cheuk Hin - bravo technically, all the distractions are blurred and the subject in focus, yes the dyed hair, handbag and the engrish print shirt are typical of the affluent locals, though the text on the shirt is not as hilarious as some I've seen, they do it crazier in Japan, check out www.engrish.com, if you haven't already. I'll post my own fashion version to workshop.

One killer shot, Cheuk! Love this experiment, super dynamic and alive! The layers here, the motion blur vs clarity are amazing. Love all the elements, the freshness, the colours, motion and especially your daring!

aiyo~ Great result you got here!
I actually have never used flash on my camera, have nver thought of using it, haha. This shot conveys very busy atmosphere in the street and I like it! I always think the fashin in HK is different from in Japan, and I can't really explain well about it. wish you A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
jafadabret (56501) 2007-01-06 12:08
Ici le flash lent a bien décomposé la scène. Les effets de lumières et de flous sont superbes. La photo traduit l'ambiance de la vie en ville la nuit de façon magistrale.

I like idea with night mooving lights around!
Very good done!

Very well done and interesting note.

Hello Cheuk-Hin, and happy new year. This is one of your best efforts so far, I think - I don't see how it could have been done better from a technical perspective, and artistically you manage to render a vivid dynamic impression as well as a lightweight and happy feel concerning the young couple that makes a fine main subject for the scene. Bold and cool, very nice.
roamermark (1590) 2007-01-07 22:16
I haven't been around in awhile and am trying to catch up.
This has the feel of slick advertising shot to it. You make it seem effortless. It definitely says a lot about HK as well. Francis says it well...the poet of Causeway Bay indeed....nice one
mphotographies (1976) 2007-01-10 2:12
I like they way you created (daring indeed) a sense of activity and action. Nice shot of this chic couple, despite the brightly cluttered background you managed to 'contain' them. Hong Kong young trend-setters are quite similar to Harajuku less rebellious though.
delnaja (2054) 2007-01-10 17:53
stunning result! The couple seems to "out of the real world"... and superb colors.
A great one.
tsangclare (130) 2007-01-14 15:35

cherryripe (21033) 2007-01-17 14:05
