these are undersea beauties in one of the displays at the Long Beach Aquarium of The Pacific.

sea stars or star fish are marine invertebrates belonging to the phylum echinodermata, class asteroida. the names sea stars and star fish are also (incorrectly) used for the closely related brittle stars, which make up the class ophiuroidea. they exhibit a superficially radial symmetry. starfish typically have five or more 'arms' which radiate from
an indistinct disk (pentaradial symmetry).
sea stars do not have movable skeletons, but instead possess a hydraulic water vascular system; has many projections called tube feet, located on the ventral face of the sea star's arms, which functions in locomotion and feeding. some species of sea star have the ability to regenerate lost arms and can regrow an entire new arm in time.
there are about 1800 living species of sea star, and they occur in all of the earth's oceans. the greatest variety of the sea stars are found in the tropical indo-pacific. areas known for their great diversity include the tropical-temperate regions around australia, the tropical east pacific, and the cold temperate waters of north pacific.

A very attractive shot, at first I was wondering what it was as the thumbnail is so small. You have great composition here and have shown these animals in their habitat (although in a tank)
