Photographer’s Note
One more shot from yesterdays train chasing excursion, taken jsut a few seconds after the previous post, but with such a different result I thought it worth another view, especially of such a rare sighting of two trains passing.

Quite some trainshot, so timeless, so mysterious, so emotive!
A fine POV that gives an almost vertical diagonal, if there are such things, through the frame. Nice bend towards us at the bottom to make it easier for the eyes to slide up along that line. The cloud gives a burst of light in the low key frame and is diagonally opposite the darkest corner. Nice repetition of train roof and semafores. And to top it the almost hidden mystery bridge in the distance. (No real mystery, Britain is full of arch bridges under and over the railway lines and frankly they should have been taken down years ago)

Good use of B&W. Nice grain (Shot at 1600?).
Would have used "decisive moment" instead of "places" as the 2 trains are very well positioned in the picture.

Great choice of medium Richard! This photo probably would not have worked in color. I also like that it has a slight brownish tone to it. That and the bit of grain make it feel like a much older photograph. Great shot.

Richard,
Great use of B&W here. I am not a big fan of B&W, but it is perfect here.
I don't think color would have had any where near the same effect. This is a very nostalgic photo of two wonderful trains.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful train photo. I a sucker for trains!
Happy New Year,
Asa

Richard,
Good use of B&W, it makes it feel like a very old photo. I like the contrast of how the lower half of the photo almost looks like a small model train set, while the top half is chaotic and obviously shows this is a real scene.

Splenderous.!!
Magnificent !!
The trains of a special destiny - to be beautiful rather than anything else.
The snakes with souls, the eels with the windows.
Powerful toys for grown up kids...

Your photos of trains are really good to see, be it Bangkok or England. The sepia takes us to another world with the steam and fog.

Hello Richard,
A very fine shot nicely rendered in b&w and full of nostalgia. I much prefer this to yesterday's posting. It has more dynamism somehow. I like how the rails curve away to the left at the bottom of the frame.

Nice one Rick. I like it better than the previous one - The smoke and steam seams more dramatic.

Good morning Richard!
This is a very atmospheric picture with all this steam and haze. The lines of the rails give a wonderful depth and there's a lot of "action" in this one. Including the curve here works very well!
I wish you all the best for 2007 - espcially health!
Greetings from Germany!

Bonjour Richard,
Le BN convient très bien à ce genre de photo, la rendant intemporelle.
Le mouvement est bien rendu et le cadrage parfait.
Best regards and happy new year!

bonjour Richard,
décidémment j'aime beacoup vos images de train, à chaque fois on remonte le temps. Le n&b donne vraiment le caractère à l'image, et leur position donne une bonne lecture.

This shot is great, it almost looks like the trains a toy trains on a track passing each other. Great choice of sepia tones.

Ok Richard, I guess I'm a little too late to wish you a nice 2007 year! I miss the train! :)))
Beautiful grainy atmosphere here. I don't know if it is the fog, or the trains, or your well done treatment, but there is some sadness feeling for me in this photo. Some melancholic mood... I prefer much, much better to have that kind of feeling than to stay cold in front of so many pictures I see. That one touches me...

Hi Richard,
I have been enjoying a trip through you gallery, very nice indeed. I chose this photo because I really like steam trains. You were lucky to capture the two at once. I like your choice of B&W and also the inclusion of the signals, nice shiny tracks and of course the atmosphere the steam creates. It seems strange writing for a university lecturer again. Please don't grade my spelling, LOL. Excellent image.
Cheers,
Debbie

Hello Richard,
I love the look and sounds of the railway and you have captured that brilliantly in this shot. The composition is perfect. I think the black and white effect along with the fine grain are great features of the photo and enhance it greatly. Thanks for sharing,
Jules
