[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Trainshot for Kari. And the ferris wheel is visible for Julia. :-)

Another of my "nightshots" from Helsinki railwaystation.

On the left we see a train for Kolari (about as far north as it is possible to go by train in Finland?). The last (closest) two carriages are for cars, cars are loaded on two flors in this type of carriage. The other carriages are for people. I was a bit dissapointed there was no cars yet. But they can't be loaded in the Helsinki central station. I think they load them on the next stop in Pasila.

On the right we see an IC (Intercity) train. But I forgot to check to where it was leaving.

As a side note, "Kolari" can be translated as "crash". So the title could be (with some creative translation) "Crash in Helsinki". Not that I hope for any traincrashes!

Lots of PP again because bad WB (overhead lights) and strangely bright ground:
- Levels (red midpoint 0.74, blue midpoint 1.20)
- Masked out the ground
- Contrast +11 for everything except the ground
- Brightness -68, contrast +17 for the ground
- Adjusted colorbalance for ground (midtones pushed against blue and cyan, shadows agains cyan, highlight slightly towards yellow.
- USM
- Framed

I'll post the original (only USM) as a reference...

Bonjour Jon,
j'aime beaucoup votre image, pour le travail de composition et sur la couleur. Un sujet banal qui devient une vraie belle oeuvre.

bravo

Hei Jon,
Thanks. I tried a workshop on the white balance, but didn't succeed any better and gave up. The red channel is just so blasted on the original. I wonder what kind of lamps they use as 350D usually has no trouble with WB. (My compact A95 on the other hand does.)
Otherwise I like the picture, those old car carriages are quite special.
I know that cars are loaded before the train enters the station. So it seems that not so many were going to Kolari with a car that night. Did you check the lower decks?
Kari
