Helsinki red lights district
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I believe streetprostitusion is against the law in Helsinki. But this is another kind of red lights district. The tracks for trains leaving/arriving at Helsinki railway station at night. I supported the camera against a lamppost and managed with almost no shake... But there is too much shake for a larger panorama, so don't expect one...
What do you think about the colorbalance in this shot?
My third entry in the VIII scavenger hunt...
PP:
- Cropped & resized
- Shadows/highlights to bring out details from shadows
- Adjusted levels (red & green) for better (not necessarily more real) colorbalance. Bringing out the red trafficlights more and toning down the yellow lights.
- Removed a bright speck on the ground (broken glass reflecting?)
- USM
- Added frame
Note to self: Bring tripod and warm clothes next time... |

Hei Jon,
Interesting scene showing indeed many red lights. I sure would have liked a large version, but it's fine like this too. And as a train fan, I wish to seen at least one here.
On colour balance there seems to be some yellow missing, but I would not have noted that if you didn't ask.

Lovely sight that is definitely worth a second try with warmer clothes and a tripod!
The idea is excellent and I love your title, however with this small version we are left waiting for a bit more sharpness and a bit more detail. Strangely enough we miss the pure red lights here as they seem to just become dots of pink with red surroundings. I wonder if you could make that a bit more deep with a longer exposure while leaving less light through. You might also try burning them out... but I think the best idea is to have another go, the shot is definitely worth it :D
And I agree with Kari that a train passing would not do any harm, and perhaps just add to the whole, and yes, the light from the back would work better than headlights :D
The little details I really enjoy in this shot: linnanmäki's round-thing (forgot name of that ride) and the reflection on the rail close to the middle on the left, creating a smooth s.
A lot of good stuff, but definitely issues with exposure/colour :D
TFS! And all the best!
