Northumberland and Durham have many relics and working museums of that demonstrate activities of industrial past. The Nenthead Mining Heritage Centre is a classic example.

"Nenthead Mine Heritage Centre interprets centuries of mining activity at the head of the Nent Valley, high in the North Pennines. It describes the underlying geology that formed this unique area, providing the mineral wealth, which was exploited to create what was once the largest lead mining complex in Britain. There are many surface features remaining on this Scheduled Ancient Monument, some of which are now used to house imaginative interpretations of this past industry and the social history of the miners and their families. The mining company built Nenthead village in the 1800's for their employees."
