What is it about us English? Taken in the Ticket office of the Settle train station. Didn’t want to change it to b&w as I liked the fire. It's just a window on daily life.

Hi Mark

this is great, it one of those where you can make up what you want about whats going on and who these people are.
Not so sure the stereotype of the 'lay back and think of England' is so relevant these days anymore though. I personally think everythings gone to the extreme opposite unfortunately!

Thanks for a thought provoking post though.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Mark,
I like the dayly life scene and the long kiss of the couple. How nice the fire in the ticket office. Didn't expect that in GB.
I like the colours not only for the fire. Don't have a sense for the b+w mania of these days. In some cases ok, but I prefer the world of colours.

hi mark,
excellent, this has always been my dream - to visit one of those small places in england, to learn the atmosphere of these places, to see people living there...
---------
b/w here? what for?
---------
fire in such a place? pblic kissing in such a place? this is a real PHOTO!

Hi Mark,

Another realistic view from the other side from you... Its a million miles from what I am witnessing at the moment. Just this morning, I was talking to my neice about the restrictions in Indian society regarding petting or even holding hands (married couples as well). I told her I felt that this was a little overboard. I guess its good to have boundaries, which are sometimes non-existant in my British environment... I feel quite lucky to sample the best of both worlds...

Mark: This is the great stuff. I see why it doesn't attract alot of 'immediate' attention, but you have to open and study it like a Henri Cartier-Breson shot. Great daily drama you've broken out here. regards, c

Hi Mark,

what is interesting here is the light on the woman and on the man on the right side...
You captured life.
Good choice to let it in colors.

Firy! This is a great composition and play on/with fire, Mark. I like your funny stretch of a shot, from the heated kissers through the fireplace to the man seemingly weary of existence...:-)
I would have preferred if you took a bit off the bottom pixels and added a touch more darkness to the areas overtly hit by the British sun, but even with this glaring Mediterranean sun and fire, the shot is excellent in its conception and of course uniqueness. Well seen, Mark!

Yep, seems to me something typically English in this scene. Something about the way he's standing and kissing her I think. So having said that they're probably French or Croatian or something :-)

The guy in the corner looks a bit out of it though (maybe waiting for someone to light his fire!)

Didn't see the notes before you removed them so can't comment. Worth posting.

cheers Leon.

Outstanding scene, Mark - what makes it so apart from the almost Pythonesque details...is the tension, both spatial and psychic betwen the lone "unkissed" old sod in the corner and the kissing pair.
Touches of Martin Parr as well.
Outstanding, as I say...
Cheers,
Francis
