[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This photo was taken at Kyoto's Tofuku-ji temple, and is an illustration of the enthusiastic interaction between the Japanese people and nature. Tofuku-ji is a Zen temple, which was constructed in 1236 with the aim of building a temple in the style of Todai-ji and Kofuku-ji, the two great temples of Nara. Note that the name "Tofuku-ji" is a combination of the names of the two model temples.

Each autumn, Tofuku-ji becomes one of Japan's most spectacular - and crowded - spots for autumn leaf viewing (koyo). The crowds at the time I went there was crazy (okay, 1 PM isn't exactly the time for solitude, I know). For this photo, I was leaning outside the barrier of the wooden "Tsuten-kyo Bridge", in order to capture some of the visitors activities in addition to the colorful autumn foliage.

Tofuku-ji belongs to Kyoto's UNESCO world heritage sites.

Bonjour Norbert,
De superbes couleurs d'automne et une photo pleine de vie avec tous ces photographes. Tu ne devais pas te sentir seul!
Un bon pov et une photo de qualité comme toujours.

Hello Norbert,
I am not in Istanbul again, I was in Brussels for my exhibition of pictures of Istanbul, came back yesterday and rushed to Adana, a city in southern Turkey, for an assignment.
This is the picture I was expecting and I am glad to find it today. What I see is incredible, armies of "Koyo" lovers rushing for a front view on the first row. I wonder whether you were pleased with all these crowds, pushing and elbowing, or perhaps that it is false impression, and it was a crowded moment when a bus arrived. Did you manage to stay alone and work as you wished ? On the computer I am working now, the picture looks a bit light but so is mine, the one from Girona, so it is logical to think that your fall colors are more saturated on the original one. Many thanks for showing us this unforgettable scene. I'll be back tomorrow night.

I like this heavy balcony loaded with people, photographers and local tourists. I enjoy the way you have managed to extirp yourself from the crowd by leaning out, giving us the possibility to see so much more of the context, hence making it a brilliant TE shot. However, I must say that the colours of the trees and sky are quite a bit brighter than, dare I say, desired. While we can see people appreciating the view, we are left out a bit because we are missing out on the show, not quite sure whether the colours are quite as interesting as they seem to be.
I am sure that keeping the detail on the balcony was a crucial part of the shot and hence explains the brightness of the shot on the left. But... yeah :D
The detail that does make me tickle a bit inside is the part where the intricate detail of the foliage transforms into intricate details of people. They almost blend in... if they were a bit more colourful we might just miss them and think they're leaves as well ;P
In any case, as always, a fine shot... so TFS!
I hope your stay is going mighty well!
All the best,
Julia

Hallo Norbert!

Hi Norbert,
Lovely colorful scene, full of koyo lovers
and photography lovers.

Hi Norbert. This is one of those situations where Fuji Velvia would be perfect. The people help round out the composition by adding a foreground as well as some good depth. I appreciate the great colors while keeping it realistic. Good one Norbert.

Nice shot of the scene, made even better by the inclusion of the photographer shooting it, kind of mirroring yourself! Beautiful colours too.

Clever title for this one Norbert, 'cause there a autumnal color frenzy to be enjoyed along with the intens touristic activities. A beautful and well composed busy study of nature's and people's ways.
Have a fine weekend,
Bert

Hi, Norbert. Not exactly the place to have a nap under a tree. I can understand the success of the place: the colours on the trees are so varied and beautiful. Including the lady in the foreground gives us the impression we are part of the crowd and dadds depth to the picture. Maybe the sky is a little dull.

Hello Norbert,

Impressionante à plus d'un titre cette photo. D'une part par la foule présente à cet endroit et par la beauté des couleurs que la nature leur propose !!
Une photographie nous montrant les occupations des japonais photographes !
Bien vu !

A+

Dominique

Hi Norbert,
Whether in the spring or autumn, it seems that the Japanese enjoy viewing the colours of nature. Despite the white sky, you've managed to capture the reds, golds and greens of the trees and I really appreciate your POV that also includes the enthusiastic crowd and their cameras.
Regards, Bibi

Ciao Norbert, wonderful the colors of the autumn in your photo, great composition, very well done, greetings from Italy, Silvio

Hello Norbert -

All I can say is amazing! I like the colors but the crowds would have driven me away in flash. I don't think you had to work too hard to get some of the people in any image. The colors are just supurb! It is really too bad the sky was not helpful. Well done.

Thanks for sharing

Hello Norbert,

Wow, what a shot and so many beautiful colours at this temple. Great POV with part of the temple included as well as the people. The quality is great and the details are amazing! Well done!

Greetings,
Ann

This shot reminds me of your "coastal photography" done at Point Lobos, Norbert. Your composition with all these people framed by the red colored trees and bushes really shows the close nature contact that people has in Japan.
Kind Regards, Peter

Hi Norbert, before I opened the photo; I thought, "There's never anything frenzied about Norbert's well-composed photos." Of course I was wrong; you can see why the crowd was eager to capture this stunning autumn show.
Regards, Pat

The glory of colors, running riots and rampants. A tree is just a tree but in autumn, all those hybernating colors just seems to burst into life.
