Capitol Reef National Park

Nearly 10,000 feet of sedimentary strata are found in the Capitol Reef area. These rocks range in age from Permian (as old as 270 million years old) to Cretaceous (as young as 80 million years old.) The Waterpocket Fold has tilted this geologic layercake down to the east. The older rocks are found in the western part of the park, and the younger rocks are found near the east boundary.
This layer upon layer sequence of sedimentary rock records nearly 200 million years of geologic history. Rock layers in Capitol Reef reveal ancient climates as varied as rivers and swamps (Chinle Formation), Sahara-like deserts (Navajo Sandstone), and shallow ocean (Mancos Shale).

My Story:
Plan was heading north to Moab, and from Kodachrome Basin it is all the way up north and during the day you are driving through Capitol Reef N.P. Not many people stop here and that is really a shame because this park has beautiful views and a lot of photo oppertunities.
Standing on one of those viewpoints i saw cars passing by and by and no one stopped....they really missed something.

Next stop: Dead Horse Point S.P

Hi Henk, this is such a great capture. Blue and red go along with each other very well. It is also very sharp. Good work. Sothy

nice colors and the moving car jazzes up the picture. good work

Hi Henk,
Great clear shot.Nice colour. The moving(speeding) car is extremly well positioned.
Greetings from India,
Dhurjati

The landsacpe in this part of the USA is wild and rugged. I love the color of the rock and the formations created by erosion amd other natural elements. Good capture of this impressive place. The car is ok and I think the picture would look great with and without it. Nice work Henk.

Roberto

i like the car because it is a sign of movement, and nice, really nice tones of colours
well done
regards
olga

Static versus dynamics. You got it all in wonderful composition and colors. You got two typical american elements in this shot: the indispensable car and the rough looking nature.
Cheers, Peter

Thanks Henk for this stop on our virtual tour of the States. Once again, the composition is excellent and that car at “full speed” is simply the cream on top of the cake. Beautiful scenery. And your note, well… is superb with all that geological information. Well done.

Dag Henk, mooi om dit eeuwenoude landschap doorkliefd te zien door het strakke grijs van de weg en de vage snelheid van zijn tijdelijke berijders.
Groeten Gerrit

Hello Henk,
Your AMerican travel is going on in such a wonderful way. I especially like this one wich is including for once a human element. The road is well included and the car is exactly where is has to be (maybe just a little bit more to the right only)
Well done !
Best regards. Christian

Hi Henk,
A lovely one again in terms of striking contrasts and beautiful light to deliver strong colors. The detail of the speeding car is a bonus that animates this one, probably the sheriff is hiding behind the green bush ;-)
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Lovely colours, as always and lovely composition. The idea that you captured here is a good one: cars swooshing by without paying any attention to what they are driving past. I think the car is not in the best of places, I would have rather liked on the right side of the shot, but then again getting it in the shot altogether must have been quite tricky, so I won't really complain :D
A tight shot with everything one would ever want in it. As always, simple brilliance :D
TFS!
Julia

Hi Henk,
Another one from the dry west. Great looking place like always from you. The car surprised for a moment. And surely enough it's there to make a point!
Kari

Great shot with excellent saturation. The strong red of the rocks looks as if it was taken nearing sunset, but from reading your intinerary I guess not. I like the inclusion of the bush on the left. The slow speed which your use of tripod has allowed, gives excellent motion blur to the car. Another good work for your collection.
I see you have set up your travelogue now; good.
Kath

Dag Henk, this could be a commercial for the car brand that was passing (Mercedes? Audi? ;) Excellent work of the slow shutter. I don't even mention the background, it is breathtaking!

Cheers
Alexander

A blurred car during the day. It was certainly not by chance that that f/22 was selected... And the digital velvia once again. Those reds are awesome my friend. So much to see here. There are so much detail in this picture that I find myself wondering how Canon makes its lenses. The inclusion of this green tree on the foreground is very good since it provides an incredible sense of depth. The clear blue sky once again is good, although here some clouds wouldn't hurt too. Love the light and the way shadows really show the mountain in 3D. Superb!

Hello Henk,

J'aime beaucoup ce road movie que tu nous fais découvrir en ce moment !
Les couleurs de cette image sont superbes. Tu as bien fait d'intégrer une voiture en mouvement afin de remplir l'espace inférieur.
Bien vu.

A+

Hi Henk,
As always, an incredible landscape, with magnificent colors.
Today, you added the blur car in the foreground... I love it !
It creates a great movement feel in the compo, and your pic almost become a road movie.
Great job,
JB.

Hi Henk!
Good idea to stop here and catch a car.Fantastic bright colors and contrast and a good composition with the little tree in the corner.I`m happy that I can not hear the noise of the cars, racing through this fantastic landscape.
Regards,Leo

Hello Henk,

Very nice photo. I really like the colors and the movement in the image. I allso like the contrast you captured. Nice work. TFS.

Fantastic shot with great light and taken from the right perspective!
I love your timing and this moving "something" on the road...thanks that the photo is so amazing.
The car adds dynamism and the most wonderful is that the rocks are the most motionless "products" of earth so the two mentined aspects are complementary to one another!

Agnieszka

Hello happy henk
to re-examine you with these beautiful photographs of the country to the miles landscapes, the colors are signal, the blur of the car gives dynamism has the image, well considering

Hallo Henk,

Weer zo'n schitterende blauwe lucht...geweldig. De rotsen komen hier prachtig uit met die schitterende belichting. Ik vind het ook prachtig hoe je die wagen in volle beweging hebt kunnen vastleggen! Schitterend werk, Henk!

Groetjes,
Ann

Hi Henk. Great photo. The colours are so rich and the composition is spot on. The speeding car is a nice touch, I think it adds a dynamic element to the scene. Thanks for sharing.

Hallo Henk,

Groeten,
John

Hi Henk! Nice picture, showing good colours and very good POV! Nice to see the car breaking the peaceful scenery.
Cheers!

Hi Henk,
A very nice view, red tune is very intresting in this shot but I think contrast is a little bit high
good usage of car motion in frame.

thanks for sharing
Mohammad

Hi Henk,
Another perfect shot, lovely light to see this landscape, colours are alos perfect very well taken and Tfs.
later ...

Good idea to include this blurry car in the frame.
The colours are amazing.
All the best

Joel

stunning shot.
i just like the way you capture the speeding car ,in this beautiful view
well done
anes

That's a great shot, the car really does add to the picture. I would have liked just a little more sky above the rocks to balance the picture a bit.

The rock tower is called The Chimney, you can hike up on top of the rocks to the right of it and almost look down on it.
