Photographer’s Note

Another photo taken at the streets of Seixal. I was strolling thru the older streets of the city whn I saw this old lady cleaning the front of her house.
Independently of how old they are, their proud doesn't leave them be stand and still inside home, they always must be 'in action' cleaning the inside or the outside of their homes, these ladies are a fine example for us the younger ones that sometimes arrive home after work and simply want to lay down on the sofa and watch TV.

Olá Paulo,
Gosto muito do aspecto velho desta foto. É tudo velho, sem ofensa à senhora pois todos nós para lá caminhamos. As casas, o estado do passeio/rua, as folhas de Outono caídas na rua,enfim tudo. Está perfeito o sentido de movimento da senhora com o pé no ar e a posição da vassoura. Muito bom trabalho.

Is she? Look at synchronization of her body. Feet, arms, her body language tells her proud of it. Old textures on façade and ground are adding great value with your lovely model. Congratulations.

Great everyday shot! Reminds me of my mother, she is always sweeping, even now that she is in a home she still sweeps. Doesn't like sitting still! Love the textures of the buildings and the colours and composition are great! TFS :-)

Daily life in Seixal,as seen in many countries,but as you noted,less and less,as people thinks more and more that street cleaning is only to be done by the city...
I like your 45o angle to the wall,with the lady also at 45o to the wall,that makes for a pleasant view and a good composition.

Olá Paulo, a foto está muito interessante a gosto da perspectiva da fachada com o efeito de repetição. A 'velhota' está bem apanhada e o texto condiz muito bem com a atmosfera visível na imagem, mas o que gosto mais é o tratamento que lhe deste. Este quase preto e branco fortemente contrastado está espectacular e faz-me lembrar um pouco os trabalhos do Jerzy. Gosto muito!

although you explain lots in your note i do not like the title i am affraid, it somehow diminishes the role of the elderly people;
as for the photo itself - i like the idea behind: a small tribute to these people, thanking them in this way for what they do, and who they are;

I came across your site after seeing a WS by you on a photograph by Partha called another world.....which was excellent. Your image is one of a bygone generation where women once took great pride in their area around the front door, my mother and her mother did this everyday, sadly though it's a disappearing era. Your pov is perfect with the pavement coming in from the left and disappearing out of shot to the right. A fine capture and well seen.

Hi again Paulo, i stop on this one today that i saw as the best (for others) picture in your gallery. This is once again technically everything i love, full of details and the desaturation works very well here.
