Photographer’s Note

The borders of Scotland and England (Northumberland) are liberally scattered with numberous castles, peel towers and fortified houses. This reflects the need for safe dwellings during hundreds of years of between England and Scotland and between the various border families when these regions were ungovernable.

Quote from aboutbritain.com - Neidpath castle is "An authentic 14th century castle converted to a tower house (17th century), the erstwhile home of Fraser, Hay and Douglas families, set in a wooded gorge of the River Tweed.
This romantic medieval castle with 11 foot thick walls, contains a pit prison, a draw well and Queen Mary's room. The Great Hall has stunningly beautiful Batiks depicting the 'Life of Mary, Queen of Scots'.
Fine views are obtained from the parapets and the grounds provide a scenic picnic area."

The castle is a short walk west from Peebles.
