Photographer’s Note
This old man was sitting quietly at his mother's gravesite in a village cemetery near Oaxaca Mexico. The festivities around the 'Dia de Muertos' go on for a number of days.Family members visit gravesites, clean and decorate them with flowers and offerings of favourite treats for the departed. The souls of the dead are belived to revisit earth to partake and the vigils range from the sombre (as in the photo)- to a party with plenty of mezcal being passed around. Fireworks and bands add to the night long sound and light show.
