Photographer’s Note

Years ago, when I took my first photography class in high school, our instructor told us to take photo's of arches, which were pretty common around the school. It took me a while to figure out why he thought the assignment was so important. He wanted us to "see" how to use a common item to frame a subject, or guide us into the photo. To me, the reason I like this, is because of the dark circular item at the end of the arches. Without it, the photo would have lacked contrast, yet still be useable, albeit without a real good central item to draw the eye too.

Post image processing was pretty straight forward. Conversion to B&W using a photoshop plug in that allowed me to tone it at the same time. Then after that I upped the contrast a bit, because the plug in does not quiet render the image the way it is seen. Then used the Unsharp mask to bring out some additional detail. Following that I used the scew tool to make the pillars vertical, thus removing the falling away look of the architecture.

This image is also a low resolution file of the original for fast viewing for you, and to protect my copywrite as the image will not print well.
