World War was ended more than 60 yrs ago but still you can see ruins. I was stand on Wyspa Spichrzow (Speicherinsel (D))- the oldest part of city where was located more than 300 granaries.

In March 1945, Danzig was "liberated" by Red Army. Already during artillery fire many precious monuments were destroyed, and street fights brought the destruction for the other buildings.
Danzig was treated by Red Army as conquered city. After the end of German resistance "liberators" began city to rake, to plunder and to burn the houses. The brightness of fire and smoke rose over the city yet at the end of April.

Fortunately Gdansk did not divide Königsberg (Krolewiec) fate, most precious monuments was rebuilt,(bulding in the background is old City hall on Dluga Street, as you can see it looks pretty well) tenements also was rebuilt, and especially their facades, which efficiently imitate real Old Town today.
