Photographer’s Note

Coit Tower, in San Francisco, California.

Coit Tower is a highly visible landmark on San Francisco's skyline built atop Telegraph Hill. It's position commands a sweeping 360 degree view of the city.

The art deco styled tower is constructed of unpainted reinforced concrete and was dedicated in 1933. While the tower bears an uncanny resemblance to a fire hose and many people believe the tower to be a dedication to fallen fire fighters, this was not the intent.

Also of interest is the inside of the tower where you can observe murals painted by 26 different artists. Most of these are done in the fresco style. And of course, you can ascend to the top of the tower via a vintage elevator.

Although I walked to the tower up some very steep hills, you can drive right up to the tower and park. As a result, Coit is a very popular destination and it was especially so on the clear warm autumn day I was here.

For this shot, I tried to keep the shot free of any people and emphasize the good sky I had.

Regards,
Doug
