For many centuries, the First Nations people have fished the waters of the Fraser River for salmon, and prepared it for cooking, smoking, and pickling much as you see in this picture. The cleaning hut is nestled against the rock cliffs, and below the men are braving rough water to tend to the fishing. The spot is kept reasonably secret, and legally only this group has the right to fish here.
I was working on a documentary about the First Nations in Canada, and this was one location. I had little time for my own photography, between loading film, pulling focus, and moving gear among the rock cliffs. Lunch was the tastiest barbequed salmon I have ever had.
Not the best photo, but a unique place.

I believe you when you say that salmon was really tasty, it looks so too! I guess trekearth is not only about good photos but also about getting to glimpse a little more of the world that what we usually get to. Thanks for sharing,

Beautiful shot, recording a timeless event, and without disturbing the participants' concentration. The taste of the fresh barbequed salmon I can only imagine! Regards, Bulent
