Photographer’s Note
Photographed today at Herrington Park, a walk in the park as the sun was setting
Herrington Country Park is a magnificent green site where, this summer, visitors can enjoy delightful surroundings and a feast of events and activities.
Located near historic Penshaw Monument, just off the a19 and at the heart of the City of Sunderland, Herrington Country Park provides a haven for walking, picnics, model boating and cycling.
The play area at Herrington Country Park represents a conscious effort by City of Sunderland Council to move towards more exciting and innovative ' European style ' play areas, which are just as much about the landscape as the play equipment. Large mounds, banks and slopes were created to enclose, shelter and add interest to the new area. The young people’s area features big sandstone boulders - dug up during the creation of the Herrington – whilst logs from trees felled in the local woods now act as informal seating. There are curvy paths to run around as well as trees, shrubs and grasses, that create a stimulating 'world' for young visitors.
