I know the picture's fairly grainy so I had to sharpen the edges, reduce brightness and add a tad of contrast to the photo. I also cropped quite a bit so the pixelation looks funny.
This is my friend and guide Miriam in front of the Touba Mosque's library of Cheikh Amadou Bamba. The Muslim holy city of Touba is about a 2 and a half hour drive inland from Dakar. It holds the mausoleum of Cheikh Amadou Bamba (the founder of Mouride Islam and the one responsible for translating the Koran for Senegalese peoples and spreading the religion all throughout the country). The mosque was built over many decades but was finally completed in 2001. Both Senegalese and foreign architects and designers (Italian and Moroccan, for example) got together to design this incredible place. Visiting Touba, for me, was also important because it was the first time I had ever been inside a mosque. The structure is enormous with veined, colorful marble (?) walling, violet-blue and lime-green domes with crescents, and white stone flooring that was chosen to keep cool for bare feet under the summer heat (you have to walk around in bare feet since it is a holy place). I was simply in awe the whole time I was there, and I'm surprised there aren't more picture on TrekEarth of Touba Mosque. If you ever think of visiting Senegal make the trip to this place, it is definitely worth it.

Hi Lara,
she is very nice woman. I did some workshop for this portrait.

This is a very nice profile. Yes the noise is unfortunate but that does not take away from the expressive nature of your subject and the interest in the profile. It's a very humanistic image. Since you are doing some post processing of the digital file, one thing that might add to the photo is to blur the background a bit, in particular those horizontal and vertical white bars. Cheers.

It is a good portrait of lovely lady! and you wrote a good note.
WS helped to get it better
