[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One of the oldest trees, bristlecone pines grow along the windswept mountaintops of six states along the Great Basin of the western US. These trees are able to survive in one of the harshest climates in the world, with a growing season lasting only three months, at times as few as six weeks. Many trees have seen many fires. As long as one branch is alive, the tree can survive. This bristlecone pine is found along the Rampart Trail at Cedar Breaks NM at an elevation of 10,000 feet. Many of the trees in this area, including this one, are over 1600 years old.

The photo was taken at sunset as the sun and red rock cause the light to turn golden.

I like how the colors compliment, gold against blue sky. I also appreciate the natural history of your beautiful subject.

Greeting Allan! Very nice shot and subject with wonderful lighting and colors. My only criticism is I wish the bristlecone's lower branches on the right didn't overlap the background. I think that prevents us from fully appreciating the great shape of these trees but it's very nice as is.

No she didn't, well prehaps I can't remember.
She must have!
I have heard alot about these pines, old as earth its self (not quite). To get the whole tree in, you lose that detail but gain the whole, how on earth do you describe 4,000 years in one image.
Black and white 6*6, black and white, wish I had such a camera.
Great photo, take a load more.
I've had too much port, so forgive me.
My favorite topic trees TFS prehaps one day I will get to visit these old old wo-men.
