Photographer’s Note

The event is part of the larger Dolta festival held by the Khmer people. Each race involves two pairs of oxen controlled by a rider who competes on muddy and slippery paddy fields that form the 100m long and 60m wide racetrack. The event is open to riders and bulls from An Giang as well as other nearby Mekong provinces of Viet Nam and Takeo Province in Cambodia.

Incredibly dynamic photo. I can almost feel the ground shaking under my seat with this one... I got to rush or it'll run on me...

Technically, the background is perfectly monitored, half concealed with splashes of mud.

Anyone who doesn't give you a couple of smiley points for this one must not be able to type.

Although the face is totally underexposed, it is quite understandable due to the fact that he is wearing that cap.

The reflection off the water is superb, and the look on the oxens faces are powerful.

I presume this is an annual event held each September? Inclusion in the photographers notes would be a help...but the note is great...thanks.

even in the preview the movement was visible. The photo is made in an excellent way. Sharp, good light. The water in front with the small waves and the mirroring enhances all this.

the peaceful water is waiting for the troubles, the dirty water flying in the air, the movement, the animals, the man, light, pov, everything is perfect but I didn´t like that numbers despite they are part of the history of this photo

Hi Hoang,

It is a photo that i would put on my wall. Everything is just perfect, though the driver face is a bit dark. Love the reflection, the water splash, the clarity of the cows. A very great image!!
