Hei...this is Rijeka, my hometown. Actually, the photo shows the East Side, called Sušak, with focus on the hill of Trsat. Here is some more about Sušak from Wikipedia:
In 1924 Rijeka (Fiume in Italian) belonged to the independent Free State of Fiume, which had been created four years earlier under the Treaty of Rapallo, but in the Treaty of Rome the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes and Italy agreed to dissolve the free state. Instead Rijeka was annexed to Italy as the Province of Fiume, and Sušak remained with Yugoslavia, but with joint administration of the port facilities. The name of traditional soccer club from Sušak is NK Orijent.
Now, this is a bit vague...someone should update the Wikipedia.

The photo was taken from the new bridge, set up to honor the Croatian fighters of the Homeland war. I took some four vertical shots and stitched them with PTGui. Below the bridge is the so called Dead chanal, or the "Mrtvi kanal" in Croatia. This was the old river bed of Riječina, the river passing through Rijeka.
But did you know that Rijeka means river on Croatian? Riječina is not very long some 10 km maybe, but some 10 kyears ago it was some 200 km. things do change!

Technical note: The separate original shots were converted from raw format to jpgs with sigma's photo pro software. i developed it ther increasing the saturation, shadows and the contrast. In PS I changed the colors to CMYK to get some more natural contrast and adusted the levels.

I mada tu zivim vec sto i koju godinu svaki put zastanem na mostu i pokusam uloviti nesto novo od Mrtvog kanala. Lijepa fotka. Fino prezentira nasu malu Rijeku!
