The history of the American Indian is especially strong in Southwestern Colorado, where the Ancestral Puebloans built cities in the sandstone and where Ute Indians farmed, hunted and continue to live. Ancestral Pueblons are long time gone, but some of the Ute Indians still remain.
This photo is taken on the road between Cortez and Mesa Verde. White, snow caped peaks are those of San Juan Montains, most southern extenesion of Continental Divide. San Juan mountanis have greatest geological and floral diversity of all mountain ranges in Colorado, and cover about 1/8 of the states area.
