Photographer’s Note
Closing time in Ningbo is a bit earlier than in Shanghai to the north. This was probably taken around 9pm between rain squalls (there was a major typhoon approaching that stranded me in Shanghai the next day).
Tianyi Square is a very modern and pleasant public square surrounded by shops, restaurants, coffeehouses, and clubs. It boasts the largest installation of automated water fountains (think Bellagio in Las Vegas, but on a smaller scale) in China, "performing" nightly at 7:30 PM. Once the shops close and the fountains stop running, the crowds disperse fairly quickly. The lady in this shot hung around for a while and was captured in two of my photos. Perhaps she was looking for a job?
