Two Old Monks Prying in the main hall of the Golden Temple, Bylakuppe.

Tibetan prayer wheels (called Mani wheels by the Tibetans) are devices for spreading spiritual blessings and well being. Rolls of thin paper, imprinted with many, many copies of the mantra (prayer) Om Mani Padme Hum, printed in an ancient Indian script or in Tibetan script, are wound around an axle in a protective container, and spun around and around. Typically, larger decorative versions of the syllables of the mantra are also carved on the outside cover of the wheel.

Spinning the written form of the mantra around in a Mani wheel (or prayer wheel) is also believed to give the same benefit as saying the mantra.

Hi Arindam,
A great portrait of these monks, I like the way the one is in focus and the other not using good depth of field. Nice focus on the monk in the yellow capturing a great expression.

Wanda

What an expression on the face of this monk. So concentrated in his mind, so concentrated in his hand turning his prayer wheel. The composition with the 2 monks focused on the second one is excellent.

Hi Arindam, the colors are awesome and the choice of focus was good I think, really well seen, a very nice one...

Excellent DOF focusing on the monk with the wheel. The composition is very good and very easy on the eye. Congratulations.
