Forsa Mustafa under sail Photo

Photographer’s Note

It is a very sad fact that many people will have spent time on a holiday Gulet without sails! Just walk around a few harbours in Turkey and have a look.

On the other hand some Gulets were built to sail and provide a special experience when in full sail under expert control. This was taken on board the Gulet "Forsa Mustafa" which sailed out of Bodrum for many years.

Excellent framing. This “abstract” composition is very, very well thought off as it is full of dynamic and with captivating colours. Also like the square format in this case, as it contains well all the lines of the composition inside it. Usually the square format drains dynamic but not in this case.

Just three little details:

- the sharpening could be better as the image seem to be over-sharpened
- some noise reduction could be applied in the sky areas
- the image is too big to be viewed in a 17” monitor (still the vast majority). I can not see it fully except in the thumbnail. A 700 pixel image would not loose in detail and allowed to compress less the photo, meaning higher image quality.

A great image. I like the composition of your photo with the curves of the sails, the light coming through the sails is great too and enhances the lines.

Great graphical composition! Very good use of the straight lines of the mast and curves of the sails. I like your use of the square format, quite unusual for me for this subject.

a great example how to fill a dull blue sky with some marine action...the proportions between the sky and the mast/sails are very well balanced...cheers, arturo
