This is Moais from the easter island.
There's a lot of theories about the meaning, the construction, and transportation of these giant statues.
But let's begin with the appearance of the Pascuan people.
The oral tradition reports that in 400 after JC, tribes where making war to each others in the marquise islands (located at about 2000 km).
There was also surpopulation in the marquise Island. So a defeated tribe had to leave the island. The king Hotu-Matua took wifes, childrens, vegetables and animals in pirogues.
They headed East and finally came into The Rapa Nui Island.
As there was no big enough trees in Rapa Nui, they never could leave the island by building pirogues.
This is the beginning of a "prisonned in paradise" people.
