Corsican and Africa a tumultuous history

A little history on pontifical Corsica

In front of the threat of the lombards, the popes turn to the Francs. Pip the Brief, in exchange of its sacrament of king by the Zacharie pope, promises the restitution of the Italian peninsula and the islands of Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily to the pope. In 774, Charlemagne confirms the promise of donation of Corsica in the Holy See made by Pépin the Brief into 754. Corsica became a quasi deserted island (approximately 20 000 islanders). Corsica worries about a new threat: the Moors (Mori) become recently Moslem. Corsica undergoes a raid of the Moors every year from 806 to 813. In 828, the count Boniface is named protective of Corsica by the Pope, and transmits it to its sons. Certain Moors are fixed themselves, in particular, in the Corsica Cape. Many Corsican patronyms inherited the term mori (Moro, Moreschi, Morati...) as well as a warlike dance, Moresca. With the exit of the first millenium, the island of Corsica can be presented in the form of an at the same time exceptional and single crucible of three Mediterranean civilizations - Roman, Christian and Arabic - who, all, once in the island, did not cease interpenetrating.
