Walking on Water Photo

Photographer’s Note

17:45: "Dinner time!" "Is it salted fish tonight?"

To my amusement they were able to walk on those leaves without soaking themselves. They kept walking and chatting. Their floating shelter was just in front. I was on a motor boat.

That was Chong Kneas, a village floating on the Tonle Sap lake near Siem Reap.

Hi Cheuk,

very good use of shallow DOF here. I think that having the background so toned down and the foreground so powerfully colorful works with that.

Delightful daily life shot from this place. Good capture and good placement of the girls in the compo with the right dof.
I am not much for 'harsh' comments just for the sake of it - maybe a little more light had been ok for the girls and background - more like a marginal detail.

You choose a tip-toe delicate photo just to ask for harsh comments?
You should have had a dip through that leaf-carpeted alley, the girls would have been less serious looking... alas it wouldn't have much improved the overall quality of your picture (the blur, maybe...:)
No, don't ask for the whip when you're presenting flowers. The colours of the forward-looking path of leaves the angels fly upon are just sweet, the bg looks goodnatured, etc.

Amazing capture, Cheuk! I like this level of contrast and strong colours here. Very nice to have this saturated foreground against the pale background. And the girls are placed perfectly in the frame.

The first time I saw floating gardens was here. They really are ingenious. Also used very much in Burma around Inle Lake, interstignly enough while I was in Dali Lake I asked there if there were used, but no they never heard of thm but showed some interest, so who knows in the future.
Delightful daily life shot, Cheuk. Again the high quality that we are used to from you. Good placement of the girls in the frame, vibrant colours in the foreground .

Hi Cheuk: I've been attracted for the coloured clothes, the blue and the red are like flames. I like too the background blur, centering the attention on the girls. Thanks for this very nice shot.

Great shot, Cheuk-Hin, good you had the long lens attached to be able to capture this enchanting scene of the two girls in the way you did. A nice horizontal layering in the compo, vivid contrasting colors, and a nice DOF that shows the background layer with the housing in a softer way and thus helps your main characters to stand out well.

j'aime beuacoup cette photo car elle est très agréable à regarder. Ces deux fillettes apportent de la couleur et leur attitude est superbe. Le premier plan vert ajoute du relief et le fond flou vient compléter ce magnifique ensemble. Bravo pour cette photo qui est pour moi une vraie réussite.

Very strong colors with a good short DOF to spot this water walking ladies out towards the OOF background, a pleasant moment the gils well placed aside an the greens on fontplan, a clear finishing Cheuk.

Hey Cheuk,
Interesting. I think this works great. The sharp colours and the nice bokeh'd background.
According to the EXIF you were balls out at 300mm here. Is it a VR lens or on a tripod...seems really sharp for that focal length. Talking with Francis lately I have laid off the 300mm zoom and been playing with the 50mm fixed...but looks like it all depends what you are going for. I think this looks great.

Interesting detail of the leaf "bridge". I wonder if it would take the weight of an adult. The colours of the clothes and leaves are very striking are stand out well against the blurred neutral background. You placed the girls perfectly in the frame giving them plenty of room to walk into. Excellent clarity for the long focal length

This is really a good one my friend, deep saturated main colours in blue, red and green.
