Photographer’s Note
Walking by the Bund I saw that beggar with a pipe. The face was very natural and carved from the years. After taking a picture I gave him 1 Yuan. It is not much but I paid for the picture. So he is famous now, modeling for other fotographers, making a lots of money... I am joking ;) I just liked his face and I wanted to shoot so I paid for my picture. We both were very happy I had the picture he had money to buy tobacco :)
Good luck old man

It is a shame that no one has critiqued this picture. You would probably find he is not so old as you think, but life has been tough for him. I travelled many times to China and Hong Kong and have seen plenty of beggars. I was always warned not to give anything and when you suddenly get marauded (as happened to me at a railway station) by several beggars who are being managed by someone, you tend to walk on by.
It's a great capture of real life in Shanghai behind all the wealth...
