Kristi at Les Maison des Esclaves

| My study abroad group and I were walking around the House of the Slaves (La Maison des Esclaves) on Goree Island. I walked upstairs to the patio, outside of where the European captive-holders used to lodge hundreds of years ago, and caught my friend Kristi taking photos. I like the composition of the photo, especially after cropping about 1 and a half inches off dark wall on the right side. The colors are pretty nice too. Just FYI: the whole island of Goree, let alone the House of the Slaves, is established as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, meaning that no existing buildings can be torn down or new ones built. This means that all of the original structures (some of them at least 300 years old) are maintained to stay as they are, so the colors of the buildings are great. The irony lies in the island's beautiful buildings and streets, which were literally a hell for the Senegambian peoples held captive there and shipped off as slaves from Goree. |

Hello Lara,
interesting photo, I like esecially the colours of the buildings. I tried to sharpen a little and change some parameters (effects in Workshop).
Interesting note. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards,
Andrzej
I really like this image, I have done a workshop to bring out more of the vibrancy of the buildings colours, i hope you like it.
The composition of colors is really good! And the lady is a good character , useful for the composition.
But your note is more interesting.... this place had been the theater of great tragedies

Hi Lara
A very strong composition, with architectural interest.
So much beauty for a place that was hell on earth for so many of our brothers and sisters.
I like the colrs as they are.
A little bit of tilt to the left.
Have a nice day
Charles
Hi Lara.
I like this photo as well. You of course because you been there and because there's a friend of yours on it. It think the photo shows a good perspective. It actually looks like she haven't seen you at the moment of capturing the frame. Walls are shown in few distances what gives a nice depth. Cheers!
P.S. Andrzej did a great job with the workshop i reckon! Cheers Andrzej!
