Photographer’s Note

This is not a scene from a movie about
the history of Dark Ages!It is a daily
life scene in Medieval town of Rhodes.
I was walkikg to the small alleys in the
labyrinth of the castle when I saw this old
woman,a resident of the Knight's Castle,
looking for her cats.I take the shot
immediatly and this is the photographic
result...

What a beauty, this photo! I so much love the colors... If it was not of the wall lamps, I would surely think that you achieve that recurrent dream of the human being: time travel. That would be a nice photo, if there was not that woman. With that woman, it is a masterpiece! Me, bowing low...

Hi Thomas,
Even though the photo is not technically perfect, the ambiance rendered is really great. It looks mysterious and if you had not said in your note that she was looking for her cat, our imagination could have gone really far I'm sure. Many things can happen in such an ambiance !

Hi Thomas,
Yes, it is truth, this scene seems of a medieval film. The so narrow and dark streets, with this minimum illumination that gives a mysterious atmosphere, they are impressive.
Luckily, one lady appears by a door and it gives back us to the reality.
It is very a well captured image, just at the opportune moment.

From techical pov there is a space for correction:
* sharpness and contrast and reduction of the yellow tone a bit

Great atmosphere shown on this photo. The light really gives us the sense of a dark age scene. I like to see this guy leaving kind like being scared and it's aspect also transmits us the feeling that he's not from our era also.

Les lumières et le couleur de ta photo, renforcent ce caractère ancien, le personnage aussi.

Hi Thomas, this shot has got great atmosphere. As you say like something out of a movie. Great atmospheric lighting and details. A bit of camera blur but I think you have done very well to shoot at 1/10 sec and hand held, like you say you had to react very quickly to the situation you were presented with and you did well. Hi Thomas, fantastic capture indeed! The silouette of this woman with a stick in this dark alley is not coming from a movie, it is coming from an old Dutch painting of Leiden school, like Dou or Steen, or van Ostade... Marvellous atmosphere!

I like this one very much, the scene looks so ancient, it seems to me it was taken in Egypt 2500 years ago, It is very pleasant as well due to the use of the light that alternated lit and shady areas, but nether too strong nor too dark, well balanced. finally the man emerging from the house adds the essential touch of life, a winner this photo !

A superb management of light in this picture. You got a wonderfull effect from these two small street lamps. The old woman out of the door is a perfect character to fit in that narrow alley. What a luck she went out at that time.
