Photographer’s Note
This well maintained sailing ship which was in Whitby harbour really court my eye for its bold and contrasting colours, but I was unable to get a good shot with my small compact which included the whole vessel, so I choose to try and get an interesting shot from this angle which portrayed the colours better, hope you like it.
Regards Irene

Excellent Photograph Irene - the colours are stunning. I like the angle it was taken from and it is really sharp - well done

strong colours of the subject put any extraneous tones and shapes in the 'background'
to get a shot like this to 'shine'
use a longer lens focus..if your camera has a zoom use it out a bit..and if possible use a large aperture to get the first third of the subject sharp and fade out to the end..the backgrounds will be less detailed..
part of the mechanics of lenses etc which we can put to good use...works with portraits as well
god bless

Hi Irene - indeed the colour contrast really catches the eye, would have been even better with a wider lens.

Hi Irene
Seeing this reminds me of the Golden Hind moored near Southwark Cathedral. I love the crisp, clean colours you've captured here and the detail and sharpness is impressive. The tight crop works and deliver good impact as it cuts out any other distracting elements. Nice capture.

Hi Irene what a beautiful boat and you are so right about the colours, far beter to go home with some thing to remind you, than nothing at all.
I love it well done.
Kindest regards Donald

Hi Irene,
I had perhaps missed this one earlier. Sailing ships are becoming more and more irrelevant these days and its good to see someone taking care of the 'Grand Turk'. The blue and yellow really srtands out. Well Done!

Hello Irene,
Wonderfully composed shot, with sharp details and vivid colours. The photo is exactly five months old, when the weather was a little better (winter has now set in). Do you have any idea of the history of the "Grand Turk?" Is it rebuilt, or a model of a 17th century ship.
Warm regards,
Bulent (a not so 'Grand Turk' living in America).

You were absolutely right to focus on the hull of the ship. It is beautiful with its vibrant colours and details. Including the entire mast would make it too small on the overall image.
Good work Irene!
Thành.

Hi Irene, I would normally say this is the wrong POV, however the colours are amazing & you have captured them so well & the POV gose out the window, the sharp focus shows off stunning detail here, also excellent light, take care, kind regards Wilson.

Hello Irene,
You've done a great job capturing the rich colors of this vessel. Good sharpness and perfect light as well. The horizon is tilted left, but that is easily remedied and hardly visible in the frame anyway. Besides, with these colors, no one is looking beyond the ship. Well done. TFS
